Opening of the exhibition "Mythologies" at Musée Bonnat-Helleu
About
Dive into the heart of foundational stories and legends that have shaped Basque and Gascon cultures with the exhibition "Mythologies" at the Musée Bonnat-Helleu in Bayonne.
This first temporary exhibition, titled "Mythologies," invites you to discover contemporary works inspired by Pyrenean myths, ancestral rituals, and symbols of fertility. Among the highlights is the iconic piece Hartza, created by @thomas.loyatho, embodying the bear-man, a central figure in Basque and Gascon carnivals. Linked to the return of spring and the rebirth of nature, Hartza represents a powerful connection between myth and tradition, showcasing the richness of Pyrenean narratives still alive today.
Each artwork has been carefully installed to engage with the museum’s space, offering visitors an immersive experience where every detail matters. The exhibition highlights the craftsmanship of contemporary artists and the persistence of traditions through unique pieces, such as the sculpture Minerve Crawford, exceptionally loaned by the Louvre Museum.
A unique opportunity to rediscover intangible cultural heritage through modern artistic creations, set in a historic architectural setting.
