HIRI BESTA / Hendaye Basque Festival

Dive into the heart of Basque culture in Hendaye from August 7 to 9, 2026, with HIRI BESTA / Hendaye Basque Festival, a vibrant celebration of traditions, music, dance, and togetherness!

On Friday, August 7th, the festivities begin with cultural discovery workshops for the whole family at Gaztelu Halls (10:30 AM - 12:30 PM), led by local associations like Mutxiko Elkartea and Lanetik Egina. In the afternoon, the artisanal market « Basque Crafts and Know-How » takes place on Place de la République, organized by Hendaye Tourism and Commerce, followed by a flamenco show with the Trio Alma Flamenca at 8:30 PM. The evening closes with a men’s choir, Gaztelu Zahar, at Saint-Vincent Church.

On Saturday, August 8th, the day starts at 9:30 AM with children’s activities (« Place for Kids ») on Place de la République, including face painting, wooden games, donkey rides with Ta Lan, and corn tortilla-making workshops. In the afternoon, the Hiri Besta races for adults (5 or 10 km) and children (3 km) set off from Abiatzea, with race number distribution at 5:30 PM. The evening will be filled with musical animations in the streets by the bands Zarpai Banda, Baiona Banda, and Les Genets, followed by a traditional dance with Edantza at 10 PM.

On Sunday, August 9th, the day begins with a mass with the Harmony at Saint-Vincent Church, followed by a Basque pelota match and an exhibition of floats crafted by local associations. At 4:30 PM, the grand parade will march from the train station to Ondarraitz Stadium, featuring 12 local associations and their themed floats. The evening will culminate with a concert by Sukar Taldea at 8 PM, followed by MASKAK at 9:30 PM, and a DJ set at 11:20 PM. Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks at midnight!
