Is the queer only Western? Conceived at the heart of Empires, is its lexicon useful far from colonial metropolises and logics? In this work, Sandeep Bakshi challenges the accepted genealogies of the queer to escape the instrumentalizations and normalizations to which it is subjected. Drawing on practices and analyses from the Global South, this book shows that while queer studies and activism have produced radical forms of thought, they are not immune to cultural, social, and racial biases. Queer, too, has its coloniality. Therefore, it is by adopting a decolonial perspective that queer will regain the full vigor of its initial insurrection, to once again sow disorder.
