Towards a Sea - Exhibition by Yu Nishimura

Lafayette Anticipations presents the first institutional solo exhibition in France by Japanese painter Yu Nishimura, titled Towards a Sea, curated by Elsa Coustou.

The exhibition brings together around fifty works, ranging from drawings to large-scale paintings, created over the last ten years, some of which were made specifically for this event. It explores the landscape as a space inhabited by presences, often bordered by the sea—a recurring theme in Nishimura’s work since childhood.

Conceived as a meditative stroll, the exhibition weaves together human and animal figures, plant and mineral motifs that interact with the marine element. Like our memory, the works blend reality and imagination in enigmatic representations where locations permeate and haunt the figures.

Featured works include: Town by the Sea (2026) and gaze (2023).
